PERSONALITY:

What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?

When first meeting Harley Quinn, one gets the impression of a woman who's completely lost her mind. Rarely at rest, she's full of a sort of frantic, almost birdlike energy, and laughs and smiles very frequently, like she's in on some secret, personal joke. Childlike and full of wonder, she's curious about everything, and every person, and is extroverted and friendly enough to follow through and make friends relatively easily. Outwardly, on first impression, she'd seem like someone who's a little out of their mind, quirky and weird, but friendly and outgoing, generally positive, and a little childlike. What's going on inside is a lot more complicated - none of the first impressions would be wrong, exactly, but there's certainly more going on. Her psyche is fractured, severely compromised by an overload of intense psychological trauma given to her by both her own life and her time spent with the Joker. Traumatized and very lonely, she struggles with her self-esteem, falls too easily in love with anyone who gives her attention, and experiences a lot of difficulty with empathy and compassion. She doesn't view people with any kind of sentiment or empathy, generally, not really concerned with the pain others are feeling, and though she can become fond of people and is capable of love for others, it doesn't happen easily and takes a lot of effort. She's simply emotionally removed from others beyond her surface cheer and friendliness.

How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?

Harley handles stress like a champ. In fact, you could almost say she doesn't really feel stress or fear. Everything she's been through, the trauma and brokenness of her psyche makes her nearly incapable of feeling fear or stress, she's simply impervious to it from having lived with it for so long. Harley is practically fearless, jumping into dangerous situations without thinking, even when the odds are very obviously against her and her own survival. For example, when faced with the entire Corto Maltese army versus her own very small cadre of Suicide Squad members, when ordered to charge, she just said 'okie doke!' and went for it with a rocket launcher. As long as she's having fun, is enjoying herself, there's no fear, no stress, no anxiety. Harley is not given to worrying, she's impulsive, she goes with the flow instead of bothering to angst about what might happen or the things that have happened. Harley lives in the present, there's no room for planning ahead, stressing about what's happening right now, or regretting what's in the past. In an emergency, she's reliable and practical, and reacts without hesitation, jumping in to aid teammates who are struggling, to bandage wounds, or initiate a fight when it's called for. And sometimes when it's not called for.

What are some of your character's regrets? How is your character impacted by them?

Harley doesn't really have regrets. Everything in her life has led to her being the person she is right now, and she's quite fond of the person she is right now. Looking back, there's very little she'd change besides maybe being with the Joker for so long, and giving so much of herself to him. To some extent, she wishes she hadn't gone through all the cruelty that he put her through, the way he treated her, like a belonging instead of a person, the tainting and shattering of her psyche, mostly because all of that was very difficult to go through but partially because she feels that she was wasted on the Joker, that she put up with him too long, that she was better than he was all along - typical breakup thoughts. However, despite that regret, she wouldn't go back and change any of it, because she's come so far, and she wasn't very happy to begin with - it isn't like her life was idyllic before she met the Joker, she already had self-esteem problems, she already struggled with loneliness, she already felt rejected by her father and she'd already had darkness in her, going by the manipulative and twisted nature of her thesis in school for psychiatry. So, while she does have regrets about her time with the Joker, she doesn't and would never want to undo the things that have happened, because they've made her fearless, independent, powerful, and able to do whatever she wants with little remorse.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Harley's only real abilities are that she is in peak human condition, she is a trained fighter, and she is a trained gymnast. Her strength, agility, durability, and metabolism are at the peak for a woman her age and size, meaning she can withstand things the average person might not be able to. She is also well-trained at using a wide variety of weapons from guns to javelins. Finally, she is a trained gymnast capable of a wide variety of acrobatic feats beyond the average person, which she has learned well to incorporate into her fighting style.
